Since its founding over 250 years ago, members of Menallen Friends have worshiped weekly in the Quaker unprogrammed tradition of silent worship. There is not a hired pastor or prepared liturgy; instead, every person can share their inspiration as they feel moved by God to do so. Although we do not adhere to a particular creed of beliefs, we do share the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and stewardship (sustainability). These are manifested in the activities in which we participate, both as a meeting and individually.
We extend a warm welcome to you to share in our Meeting for Worship which begins as Friends enter the meeting room and sit in silence. We gather in silence to seek communion with God to search for divine will and guidance for ourselves, the group, and for society. The hour of worship may be entirely quiet or there may be spoken messages. One should not come ready either to speak or not to speak, but rather to wait and be responsive to the Inner Light.
During the last five minutes of Meeting for Worship, we share our joys, concerns, and prayer requests. At the rise of Meeting we greet each other and introduce ourselves to visitors.
Menallen Friends gather for Meeting for Worship at the Menallen Meetinghouse each Sunday between 10:30am and 11:30am. All are welcome.
