Community Outreach
The Quaker Testimonies of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship are the principles by which a Quaker's outer life becomes an expression of their inner light.
Reflecting on these core testimonies as well as our belief in “that of God in everyone,” community outreach is a natural part of spiritual life for Menallen Friends. We recognize the importance of extending kindness, inclusion, and service beyond our immediate circle.
Our commitment to outreach is demonstrated through leadership for youth development, addressing food insecurity, and aiding those experiencing homelessness. We engage in efforts to promote peace and justice in the wider community and prioritize environmental stewardship to protect the resources entrusted to us for future generations.
Food Pantry at Adams Rescue Mission in Biglerville, PA. In July, 2026, Menallen began a food pantry at the Adams Rescue Mission (ARM) thrift store in Biglerville to support our Upper Adams neighbors. Thanks to generous donations, the pantry is well stocked each week.
According to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, 1 in 9 Adams County residents experience food insecurity. If you are able, please support this community outreach by donating non-perishable food items either in the designated plastic bins at the Meetinghouse or directly at the ARM in Biglerville (Tu-Sa, 9-5). Together, we can offer care and compassion to our community.
Johns Meals. John's Meals is a backpack program that provides weekend food to children who receive free or reduced-price lunches. Menallen has supported this Upper Adams School District program since it began in 2014.
